Professor Dr. Le Tran Binh



Le Tran Binh (M),  born on July 18, 1950 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, completed studies for Diploma Biology in 1973 and Dr. rer nat. (PhD) for Plant Physiology  in 1977 at  EMA University Greifswald, Germany. Postdoctoral activities in Max-Planck Institute in Cologne (Germany) 1988, in NIBR Tsukuba (Japan) 1990-1991 and University of California, Davis (UC Davis) 1994-1996.

Since 1977 he is working at Institute of Biotechnology (IBT), VAST, Hanoi as researcher, Head of the Department of Plant Cell Biotechnology, Deputy Director and from 1997 to 2008 Director of Institute of Biotechnology (IBT), Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Present position Full Professor of Biotechnology, IBT and Vice Rector of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH) from 2010 to 2016; Acting Vice Chairman of Vietnam Association of BioScientists (VABIO) and Selected Member of the National Board of VUSTA.        

Research interests focusing on Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Nano Biotechnology.

Publications:  Author and co-author of 334 papers on national and international scientific journals, 8 books and monographs, 3 patents and 02 new rice varieties (DR2 and TD6).

Since 1978 being invited lecturer for Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hue University, Thai Nguyen University, Vinh University, Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources (IEBR), VNU Hanoi University of Science, VNU University of Engineering and Technology and USTH.

Supervisor for 19 successful PhD students and 20 Master students.

National Labor Medal 2008 and National Prize for Talent Scientist 2009.
